Banker fired in wake of suspect $4B Burger King deal sues Wells Fargo

A Charlotte man, once a top foreign exchange banker at Wells Fargo Bank N.A., has filed suit against his former employer alleging the bank set him up as a fall guy in a federal investigation of a $4 billion deal involving Burger King's purchase of the Canadian restaurant chain Tim Horton's in 2014. The lawsuit, filed by John "Jed" Guenther, accuses the Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) subsidiary and unnamed corporate employees with wrongful discharge, slander, libel and breach of contract. It also accuses Wells Fargo of sex discrimination, because Guenther and three additional male bankers were dismissed over the deal while Sara Wardell-Smith, the head of the Foreign Exchange Sales and Trading at the time of the deal who Guenther claims was more involved than he, was allowed to remain and transferred to another bank division.
